Seattle has a very bad day!

Yesterday all hell broke loose in Seattle.
There is one spot where you leave I-5 in the middle of Seattle
to get on to I-90 which is the most traveled pass in the state of
A tanker truck full of propane fell over in just the right spot and flooded
I-5 southbound and northbound and the entrance of
I-90 eastbound and westbound was shut down too (with another truck falling over).
Shut them all down. For about 8 hours.
They had to evac the homeless who live under the freeways
and make sure all their fires were extinguished.
Raining, snowing and then lightning hit the Space Needle.
I emailed the Seattle kids and hoped they were all well.
Eldest Son mailed back: "It's the End Times!"

One event made me smile. A taco truck stuck in all this
mess opened up for business and served all their fellow

No more homework :-)

This school (Orchard School in Vermont) banned homework. Instead the kids were asked to
play and read a book or be read to. And it worked! Kids did great.
Does not surprise me one bit.

Hug your local firemen and policemen

Our neighbor, the fireman, is somewhere in that picture. Icy roads, and driveways, caused this family car to slide off the driveway and down the hill. It took a little boy with it. He was under the car and stuck. It took almost an hour to get him out because the car still wanted to keep sliding over the edge. The boy is okay with leg injuries and exposure injury.

From Boat Races to Kennewick Man to Ancient One comes home

Every end of July we host hydroplane races on the Columbia River. A big deal, lots of noise, lots of beer sold. In 1996 two young men were wading in the river and found a skull. Thus began the long journey of Kennewick Man (named after the town that hosts the races). Twenty years of studying, wrangling and trying to determine what to do with him. No more -

"The ancient bones of the Kennewick Man have been returned to the ground.
Early on Saturday, more than 200 members of five Columbia Plateau tribes and bands gathered at an undisclosed location to lay the remains of the man they call the Ancient One to rest, according to an announcement Sunday by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation."

Sasquatch :-)

"Senator Ann Rivers, in an effort to recognize “that Sasquatch has made immeasurable contributions to Washington state’s cultural heritage and ecosystem,” filed a bill to designate the monster “as the official cryptid of the state of Washington.”

Resist Picture Test - can you see it now?

This picture was posted on Facebook by MoveOn.org and shared by a friend who asked if I could spot my brother and SIL. I was able to send it to brother via email to ask him where he was (the T).
But try posting it the blog - it showed up for me but not for you. I printed this off and scanned it and saved it to my computer. Can you see it now?

Ed Sec'y - Angry Face

"A U.S. Department of Education website, empowering families of students with disabilities, has disappeared -- and already embattled Trump education chief Betsy DeVos may be to blame.
U.S. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell (WA state) want to know what happened to the vanished website, and have asked Education Secretary DeVos to put it back up.
The website was set up under President George W. Bush so educators, advocates and parents could get a "one-stop" explanation on the federal Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), as well as know their rights under the disability law."

Image result for cougar on badger mountain
We live around the base of a small mountain. Much hiking goes on there. The other day a woman and her dog spotted a cougar. The word is animals are getting stressed with our very long winter and continuing snow. We will not tell Abby.

Dogs love snow days!

Seattle and the west coast are having a very rare snowday! Granddoggy Kai thinks it is the best thing ever!

This has been the longest and most disrupting winter we've ever had. Usually we get a
week of snow and that's it. More snow expected tomorrow.

Thank goodness I was able to open the deck door
and get the doggies outside to do their duties.
7 degrees out.
(Gnomes are inside for the duration.)
