Abby is so excited....

The Obama administration today has cleared the way for routine commercial use of small drones. The decision comes after years of struggling to write rules that would both protect public safety and free the benefits of a new technology.
Abby wants to catch one!!

The gnomes

have planted another flower that I don't know what the heck it is. Nowhere else in the yard do any
of these flowers show up except in the gnome gardens!

Eldest

ran and finished a half-marathon today. He has done a marathon before also. This is after 8 lung collapses and 3 major lung surgeries. One in South Korea (that was an 'adventure'). I am still stunned at what he has been able to accomplish and very proud and very happy.
This picture is off a water hyacinth I brought in the house. It is celebrating :-)

This! This is how it starts.

" In the city of Perm, Russia, a robot escaped from a research lab into the city center and began blocking traffic. The good people at the Promobot company say they were doing movement testing on their robot, also called Promobot, when it escaped.
After an engineer forgot to lock the gates of the testing area, Promobot seized its opportunity and managed to make its way out of the lab and began wandering the busy street outside. The engineers only noticed the robot was missing after about 45 minutes; by then the robot had already attracted a crowd of curious onlookers. Promobot's mad dash for freedom was foiled when its battery died and it began blocking traffic. Police were called to help, after which an engineer from the company showed up to wheel it away."

Another gravitational wave

another cake :-)
LIGO Hanford (here) has done it again.
Gravitational waves — ripples through space and time — have been detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory north of Richland and its twin in Livingston, La., for the second time in human history.

Blooming life - we will go on

Here, in the SE corner of WA state - we had a rally of support.
Seattle had a huge rally.
These are water hyacinths in my tub pond. A fish and two frogs in there.
I think the gnomes are in there someplace in their boat.

fire season

Just down the road from us. The smoke and the smell is overwhelming at times. They are going to let it burn down. Will take a couple days. One of two fires we had yesterday.

So... deep fried Twinkies

The Neighborhood Tribe has a long history with Twinkies.
Deep frying just one of their experiments.
Another was to see how long they would last - I think this may have been in anticipation of the Zombie Apocalypse. I'm pretty sure the box is still downstairs. Somewhere. We will find it when we move. Along with the snake that came in the house and never left...

Pelicans keeping cool

Temps in the 100+ right now. ak! Pelicans come for the summer every year. Here they are on the Yakima River which empties out into the Columbia a couple miles from our house.

The gnomes have a canal

Saw this at a garden store. This is stage one. The Engineer sealed the drainage holes and dug it in. I will add rocks and side plants later (temps are climbing to 100s this weekend). Supposed to be a stream but looks more like a canal. Something to send beer and wine to Laketown.

When you let the neighborhood tribe bring you animals ----

you sometimes get rattlesnakes....
This picture was taken this week out on the Cold War reservation.
When all the tribe was younger they would bring me all sorts of critters and we'd set up habitats for them. I've had escaped frogs hopping down my hallway at 3am, a hatching of preying mantis in the car and a baby rattlesnake - 'do you know what kind of snake this is?' YES, let's take it back to an open range area VERY carefully.
