Global warming according to frogs...

This fellow is a Pacific Chorus Frog. They live in the trees during the summer, hibernate under leaf litter in the winter and breed in fishless ponds during the spring. Every year I would hear them wake up and start calling the first weekend in March. It was always the weekend of our first competition with the creative problem solving teams we coached so I was very sure of the date. This year the frogs started calling the first week of February. And our paper told us that our Feb. was going to be warmer than normal but the frogs already knew that...

our winter seems like it just started (first sub zero temps are a month behind) and i'm worried about our shrubs/ perennials between that and the lack of snow.

yesterday the high here was 19F with below-zero wind chills; currently it's 18F with no wind. the froggies would still be under their leaves round these parts.

Our trees have buds that seem to expand overnight! Spring is nigh! Just saw a post of FB, a friend in Michigan has spotted robins!
