then there are the bears

In the median of I-5.
They are attempting to get him to enter a humane trap.
It is baited with - rotting fish, apples, bananas, fruit tarts, maple syrup, donuts, honey, bacon fat...

So far the bear isn't interested. Drivers are urged to call 911 if he ends up on the freeway but not
if they spot him in the median.

As a kid we were all good bear dodgers as they would come into town and wander around. You just cut thru to an alley or turned around. When they were on the porch you just let them smorgasbord thru the garbage.

frog eggs!

Pacific Chorus frogs like vernal ponds. There are no fish in them to eat the eggs and tadpoles. They are warmer than bigger ponds so the eggs go thru metamorphosis to froglet much quicker. Which is good as the vernal ponds dry up after spring. My ponding friend sets out tubs with plants in them for them to use as breeding and I get a bunch of eggs.
Our big pond, while it was here, was too full of fish for them. I've made several habitats like this for them on my deck.

Ideas illustrated

Ph.D. student turns thesis into comic book for friends and family to understand.

I love this on so many levels.
I did the same thing for my highly dyslexic child.
I find I still remember the concepts I illustrated.

ak! Now Captain Kirk is after us!

He wants to transporter our water.

From Seattle... (psst Captain, the point of Seattle is that water falls there in individual droplets and the Puget Sound is full of salt water).

He plans to launch a Kickstarter campaign to raise $30 billion.

Okay, so you raise the money - there are few things to consider - three state governments, environmental impact studies, some endangered critters here and there.
Oh, and we're having a drought too!!!

Now the Columbia River (which is mentioned in the article) dumps a lot of water in to the Pacific Ocean every day. And they have mulled it over in the past - taking water from the river. But - now you are involving another country. We are still trying to rewrite and reconfigure the treaty that governs the river. And add in a few Native American and First Nation tribes to that equation.

Nothing is ever easy. Or quick.

Meanwhile in Canada

Meanwhile in Canada -- the old country for me :-)

Got any spare aircraft carriers?

"In the not-too-distant future, drivers in Washington state could cross the Sinclair Inlet on a bridge made of two or three decommissioned aircraft carriers. It may sound like a wild pipe dream or a portrait of military dystopia, but the idea is under active consideration by the state, which has received federal funds to study its feasibility."

So, there's that....

In the PNW we don't fool around -

 we steal entire houses...
This cabin was stolen off its foundation in NE Washington state.
Due to a tip the Sheriff's deputies found it ten miles away hoisted up on stilts.

I would have purchased these and will for any future grandkids

This woman alters the Bratz dolls (which we have never purchased) and the story is here

I guess she gave up Barbie as a bad alternative. At least Bratz dolls don't have bazooms out to
yar and other freakish body measurements.

Barbie was never popular here. She was often tied up and attached to various chair legs. She was launched into space on the Tribe's rockets. She ended up as a Halloween decoration, headless, in the Haunted Doll House.
