oh gawd, I'm so embarrassed I'm wearing....

a Thundershirt.
All part of our ongoing campaign to save $132 a month for the vet to sedate him and trim his Tar's  nails.

Today we had a great game of Chase Abby and Fetch to tire him out. Then he got his calming pill. Then he got his Thundershirt on. And then, once again we tried his nails... I am just not strong enough to hold him down (I miss youngest) while The Engineer tries to trim them.

So The Engineer and I took him to the dog wash and, after being washed and dried, he got about half his nails done - this is after 2 weeks from the vet techs, four of them, holding him down. We are slowly getting his nails done. We will go back mid-July to the dog wash. This time water only to distract him and the blow dryer.

Why is it the biggest dog we've ever had is the most neurotic?

All good humor has a lot of truth in it....

Why buy it for $7?
When you can make it yourself
with $92 of craft supplies.

New gnome from Colorado

Came with a good friend :-)
Apparently this gnome spends his time contemplating behavior that is 'appreciative, tolerant
and humorous'.
The gnomes tell me this is attainable thru liberal applications of beer.

How to recycle - well, maybe

The recycle sack is five inches to the right.
The family leaves the recycling on the counter.
The city asks us to rinse and squash milk cartons, then put the lid back on.
The cereal has to be emptied of little bits, the plastic bag taken out and the
boxes opened and squashed.
Sometimes I leave it there while it gathers and gathers but it does not
seem move the residents from 'mom will do it'....

Faux Orca - you have to give them points for creativity

Sea lions love to munch the salmon entering and leaving the Columbia River where it enters the Pacific Ocean. An attempt to use a pretend killer whale has failed. A passing ship capsized the whale and it is back in Northern WA where it is getting a tune-up.
Living in Northern BC I was blessed to see a lot of these animals up close and personal. It is something you never forget.

Boo Husky gets a new tshirt

One of my NILs is head coach for this school's football team.
In Sept. they are playing Eldest's ala mater in a pre-season game.
There is a long and hallowed tradition, as in all states, of state rivalries.
NIL Coach went to the other school and taught all his children to
put the word Boo before the rivalry school's name, so of course
Eldest became Boo Husky.
So now Eldest's beloved team is playing NIL Coach's team in September. Eldest has made
the decision to root for Coach's team. So of course I had to order him
and DIL and Youngest (all our Seattle kids) new tshirts.

The CAT, weeds, future vet in the family

Not the best picture but taken from the deck into the very shady side yard. The CAT sits there and conducts staring contests with the dogs. She always wins. She also likes to sit in our front yard maple so plan on getting a picture. She is sweet and furry and likes loves. We were worried she was lost but noted one day she had been to the vet. We allergic people take our kitty-ness where we can.
Yes, I got dragged into Pinterest again. They *say* that straight white vinegar will kill weeds so I'm trying it on this fellow and we'll see what happens....
Farmers BIL and SIL live at the end of a long country road. People drive out and dump cats there. BIL and SIL feed and water them and let them earn their keep as barn cats. Allergies prevent them from having house cats. 10-year-old K (granddaughter) has always loved animals. Would wade right into a scrum of dogs and play right along with them. We have hopes of a future vet in the family. This spring she was up at the farm and she picked out a barn cat to socialize. She named it Nancy. Now the cat runs up to my highly allergic SIL and wants to be friends. Luckily there other hired men and visitors who can give the kitty affection.
