So the city is turning off our power Saturday night and into Spring Forward Sunday morning.
To fix something.
So they told us to check the backup batteries of our wired in smoke detectors. If they are low they will start beeping when the power goes off.
Who knew - backup batteries in a wired in system...?
The Engineer goes to look. Colorful language ensues. Wrong size screw driver. The alarm
starts going on and off and on and off as it is fiddled with. More colorful language. The dogs
start howling. Screws are dropped and roll away into another dimension. Flashlights are found
and don't work (batteries again). The dogs are tossed outside where they bark at the slider as all
the fun is inside.
To the google!
YIKES! Even for us wired in folks they say replace them every five years or so.
This house is about 35 years old and we've owned it for 25.
Looks like we have to buy brand new smoke detectors.
One more thing to add to Saturday's craziness.
All we need is a surprise cold snap. Right now we are scheduled for 19 degrees overnight.
