This has got to be a record...

First week of school and our district lost two elementary school kids.

One little boy lined up after breakfast and marched off to the wrong
classroom. Nobody noticed. The police were brought in, construction
workers halted work nearby and everyone searched for a couple hours
until he was found in another classroom. oops.

A six year old girl was excused from school, ignored her mother waiting
in the parking zone and marched off the property in the complete wrong
direction. Got about half a mile from the school when a nice lady spotted
her and walked her back to the school campus.

Daughter and I are both working in neighboring districts this year. You
can bet we'll keep eagle eyes on our charges.

Something similar happened to my neighbor. She went to pick up her son, who is in kindergarten, on the second day of school and he wasn't in his classroom. The teacher was at a loss to his whereabouts. They began a quick search of the school amidst a stampede of parents and students. After a frantic 15 minutes, her son was found in the office waiting on his mom.
