kitty update

Spock went off to be neutered and came thru fine. Kirk, a girl, is booked for Tuesday.
We moved the kittens to a downstairs bedroom which significantly reduced Abby's stress level.
Dogs not allowed to go downstairs now.  GB is coming home this weekend and we'll see how his allergies do with the cats. The rest of us are doing great (thank you allergy shots!)

Abby is on drugs...

This is where she spends her day. She won't eat until late in the day. She won't drink so I'm feeding her tiny ice cubes. I picked up a sedative from the vet today. Starting her on a half dosage. I've talked to the pet shelter and let them know. They have no foster families available at this time. Kitties are going in for spay and neutering tomorrow (male) and Tuesday (female).  If Abby doesn't respond to the meds I'm going to have to tell the pet shelter that I just can't do this anymore. How do these things happen to me? I've told Daughter and Emergency Back-Up Daughter NO MORE cats, no dogs, no turtles, birds or hamsters. Please people take care of your pets (not you, dear readers) and don't abandon them.

Abby has lost her blooming mind

Abby has discovered the kittens in GB's bedroom. GB who is coming home for Labor Day weekend...
Abby is going nuts. The kittens like to sit on the sill. I think they are doing it on purpose.
Our friends, who are active in cat rescue came by, took pictures and we're going to arrange for their shots in prep of spay and neutering. They expect the calico will be adopted soon but black kitties are in abundance. Looks like we can bypass the county jurisdiction problem.

kitty update

The kittens are now living large. They have taken over GB's bedroom. The girls named the calico kitty Kirk and the black kitty Spock. They are enjoying kitten chow (which Tar thinks smells amazing) and are using the litter box (thank goodness) and are enjoying their kitty toys. No word yet from the shelter, but it is the weekend. The Engineer is OT with our friend who is a kitty rescue person. Hoping he can help when they get back today. The ad in the paper (required four days) starts today. Luckily, after years and years of shots, our cat allergies are staying quiet.

There are kittens in my bathtub

Is a long story and involves bureaucratic red tape and inefficiency. The law says before we can turn them over to any shelter we have to contact the county animal control. These abandoned kittens were found in the next door county in which animal control is 50 miles away. Nobody here would touch them. We called the animal control 50 miles away (we would even drive them there) and they have no room for them. All my cat people are out of town. I've put an ad in the paper, contacted another shelter with whom we've dealt with before (orange kitty) and am awaiting an email answer. I have sent the girls to buy kitty chow, kitty litter and kitty toys. The Labradors are besides themselves. The kitties are going to live in GB's bedroom with the girls.

alien flowers?

The liverwort, which hitched a ride with the trees we bought, are now blooming. Kind of scary looking...

work space and Halloween prep

The above corner of the basement family room used to be my craft space and then GB turned it into Computer Command Central. Now he's at school and doing summer internships out of town so I've taken it back!
Halloween for the gnome garden. Yes, they are going to have to share with a witch and other spooky things. We'll have to have a Beer Summit for everyone to get acquainted.

Pet store, craft store and gnomes

Who knew there are so many gnome-ish possibilities!
For your classical gnome.

The Christmas section of the craft store has firearms!
The gnomes were told guns are not an option.

All other purchases, both wished for and actually bought are over on thegnomegardens.blogspot.com

Tar's turn for the black and white kitty

11 pm, Daughter put the dogs out and Tar discovered the black and white kitty in the yard. Abby, who remembered her encounter stayed far away. Luckily we had stuff left over from the last adventure. (And plan to get more!) Why do these things always happen on week nights?

to catch a frog you must act like a frog

and jump into the pond.
Getting out took some effort since we ignored the handy shallow area
and clawed our way up the side.
Mom was not impressed.
Abby rolled her eyes.

the frog hunt continues

In all areas of the backyard world. Frogs are to be hunted!

Abby is beside herself. The tree men are here. We are removing the last of the diseased aspen (the ones we fought to save and lost). We are also trimming the bottom of the pine and trimming up a snowball bush that is consuming the lilac and the neighbor's tree. I love trees. I grew up on the mountainous Pacific coast. I hate it when we have to remove trees.

The labradors are thrilled to find a male bullfrog in their pond. Much time is devoted to watching for it, making it jump and attempting to catch it. They almost caught a female bullfrog once (they cry like children when cornered - scares the bejesbus out of you). That frog moved on to a safer pond. Not sure what this little fellow will do. Sure keeps the doggies busy.

the gnomes are not happy

The stream and pond don't hold water. (I think my bonus is going to get canceled.) Going to leave it for now and mull over solutions.

gnome directed work is continuing in the new garden space

The stream and pond now have edging, plants, boulders. Still need work to cover up the edging with rocks, dirt and plants.

A new table ready for a gnome expedition to claim

The Engineer and GB built this today. Tar helped. I think the gnomes will have to find a flag to stake out their new territory.

too hot to fly

Three birds hanging out on the river. That's a blue heron on top of the channel marker, a pelican and cormorant sharing a rock.

the gnomes planted a garden

In the new habitat. I think they forgot to plant the leaves.... I will try and resist the demands to go to the craft store. At least for a couple days.
