Tar falls into the pond. Again

 Note Abby trying to help.
The pond is so stuffed with plants that he could not get to the shallow end. When we moved them out
of the way he was too freaked out.
Since The Engineer is out of town I instructed Daughter to run across the street and ask Firefighter Neighbor to help. We may have had the whole department here!
Then Tar finally made a heroic effort and he got out.
And smells of wet dog
wet skunk - as water activates the residual skunk he got a couple months ago.
I'm draining the pond right now and called someone who can do some major remodeling of it.
Ever since the resident labor grew up, went away to college and to work it is time to lighten
the work load around here.

Autumn fog

Living on three rivers our area gets a lot of fog during fall and winter. This is a walkway to one
of the islands.

Edgar, Allan and Poe

They are crows and not ravens but the names are too good to pass up.
Edgar, Allan and Poe follow us to snag peanuts we throw to the squirrels.
We noted this week that the squirrels are now burying the peanuts.
State weather agency says we are in for a harsh winter and I think the squirrels

uh-oh! we're sorry!

We saw this little fellow on the river walk we take. He was in the middle of the path and sure to get
stepped on, run over or snuffed up by a dog.
We rescued him and it took some effort as we had to have light hands so as not to squish him.

We found out he is part of an infestation of Army Worms as informed in today's paper.

"Army worms are back this fall, slithering into homes, damaging lawns and eating hay crops."

I'm sure of it. The only question is - where is the rest of the beastie?
(all dogs are accounted for)

The frogs have appeared to have a crop to harvest. I have my suspicions.

front yard Halloween - stage one

Left over stuff is now in the front porch planter.
The beginning of the planter haunting. There will be lights, glow sticks, spider webbing, spooky netting over the door and lots of orange lights and led candles lighting up the house. Oh, and carved pumpkins, of course!

when tennis balls become food

Left these on the kitchen table, in the package, while I put away other stuff. This is what I found on the living room floor.

my college typewriter

This is the typewriter I used in college (class of '78). It belonged to one of my parents when they were in college. I thought it was so neat that I had whiteout available and erasable paper!
Today I was browsing thru a Victorian Trading Company catalog and found they are refurbishing these and selling them for....
$790.00!!!!!!!! Holey Smoley!

Demented Squirrel

Recently a squirrel has shown up and is going from yard to yard chattering and cursing at all the
resident dogs. We decided to put his chatter thru Google Translate and see what he was saying.
Abby is not impressed.

What is she cooking?
(Hint - gnomes, do not attempt to taste test!)

another sign of October

Looks like a witch has moved in.
The gnomes don't know but this is just the beginning of October-ish-ness and Halloween around here.

The gnomes have a secret admirer

Who sent some goodies for their gardens.
The secret admirer ( Wild Woods Art Studio ) knows the gnomes are planning on ousting the frogs from their garden next spring and plant a garden. They have hired a scarecrow and found some rakes and a wheel barrow.

Portland can breathe a sigh of relief...

work on the 'vit' plant will continue.
At least until they run out of the money they put aside for a rainy day.
This is part of the work of cleaning up all the waste leftover from the
Cold War weapons production.
