Another Cat Update

I posted on "The List of The Craig" (so written so I don't attract anymore evil doers). This was suggested by Animal Control. So far I've gotten two letters back attempting to scam us out of $$ even after I answered back that the cat had passed on. Both letters use the same words and punctuation. A little research and yup, they are scammers. I expect a third response asking for bank routing information for the payments they promise us. Something I never asked for. We weren't even charged by the vet for the kitty's care. We plan to donate to local cat rescue folks that we know in Orange Kitty's name.
Took down the ad on The List still have a newspaper ad, am registered with Animal Control and the local agency in case an owner turns up.
Hoping a thousand fleas invest sensitive areas of these lost pet scammers.

Fighting in the womb

Scientists were conducting a study of twins in the womb.
They observed that the twins seemed to be fighting!
Well of course they do.
I used to balance a plate on my stomach before our twins
were born and the two of them could knock the plate off
with their in the womb wrastling matches.
And the fact that Eldest came out with a black eye that
Daughter probably gave him was also no surprise.
The article makes an observation that this may explain
sibling rivalry to which I say 'bunk'. The twins always got
along great and still do to this day. And I would add that
I think boy/girl twins are an easy combination to raise - which
is just what my niece gave birth to recently (mom, dad and
babies all doing great!).

Cat Update

The ER vet opened up at 5.30pm tonight so I called to check on kitty. Unfortunately the Animal Control officer and the Vet decided kitty had too many health issues and they put him down. We are glad he was warm, petted and held his last hours.

Abby thought her wish had come true...

Daughter is cat sitting. Tonight a strange, injured and crying cat was on the owner's doorstep. She wrapped it in a towel and brought it home. I called my cat owning friend and she brought over a cat carrier. We called The Engineer home from his meeting. He called a friend who does cat rescue. Both friends agreed the cat's behavior was not normal. We are so lucky to have an ER vet in the town next door. The Engineer and Daughter are off with the kitty now. Kitty will get the treatment she/he needs and we'll canvas neighborhood where the couple lives where Daughter found it and see if we can find the owner. Will update you all.
Abby and Tar were sent outside and then to bed. Abby may never forgive us...

Labrador Dog Disposal

November 25, 2012

Dear City of R,

We read your flyers about storm drains, snow removal and turkey fryer oil disposal.

You left out one method of turkey fryer oil disposal...
   You need:
One vat of used and cooling oil stored, safely, in the garage.
A door which was not latched securely leading into the garage.
Three Labrador Retrievers who push open the garage door,  knock over the oil and helpfully lap it up. All of it.
The same three Labrador Retrievers conveniently throw up all the oil in the middle of the night.
    A carpet cleaner.

(PS - Dear Readers - this was a crime of the late Heidi and Rosie and their cousin Kirby.)

We won! We won! We won!

Somewhere in that crowd is GB. He got up at 6am to get back to school in time to be there at an amazing game. The team had a really, really rough year and some of it is personal to this extended family. So glad for the players and students. Really exciting win in overtime.
Eldest and Daughter are grads of the opposing school in this state rivalry along with a few other errant relatives but the majority of us are the state school side of the equation.

Abby now has photographic proof!!

The Squirrel is eating our pumpkins!!!
Interestingly Abby laid on her side of the slider, laying in wait, ready to pounce, once the glass magically disappeared. Which it didn't. Tar barked his head off a couple of times and then got
bored and took a nap.

PS - Will be out of touch, for a while, starting on Monday. Everyone have a happy Turkey Day and  watch out for squirrels!!

Do they taste good? Where are they? Can we have one as a chew toy?

A family member sent this garden kit yesterday. It contains potting soil and little chairs, bird feeders, arbor and other fun stuff. I told the dogs they would have to wait until spring and promise not to kidnap any inhabitants.

Abby is on the case!

The Squirrel has been nibbling on the pumpkins! We have a bunch of little pumpkins on the deck and the Squirrel has decided to nosh on them. Drove Abby nuts all day yesterday.
I tried to explain to Abby the squirrels don't get kibbles, doggy cookies, cozy dog beds, access to Mom and Dad's bed, tasty chew bones and have to be outside all the time. Doesn't make a dent in her vendetta. Pumpkin nibbling is a crime!

Abby's latest criminal behavior

Abby likes to find small, portable pieces of paper and run off with them. Usually an index card Daughter leaves on the coffee table. The other day Emergency Back-Up Daughter #2 noticed Abby escaping out the slider with something in her mouth....

We should have followed.
Abby actually had a $100 bill that she had swiped off the guest room bedside table.
And, apparently, ate.
All poops were examined. All corners of the yard examined. No $$.
So we replaced the $, like we replaced people's shoes. But the rule is, replace once and then learn to close doors and put up shoes, etc.
Abby now has a record - shoes, sunflower blooms, index card, money, dryer sheets.
She is on probation.

Behind the scenes - Top Chef

Not really about Seattle but have to promote our biggest city :-)
All Top Chef has a link to an article written this July by a person who worked on the Miami and Chicago seasons. I loves behind the scenes stuff. Wonder about all that food that is not used??

Abby says this is getting totally out of hand!

Abby thinks this young lady needs help...
"Mary Krupa is a student at Penn State University also known as The Squirrel Whisperer. Mary has  designed a series of tiny squirrel hats for her friends to wear. The squirrels gladly oblige Mary, but only if she’s got food."
Full article here.
Facebook page of squirrel modeling hats here.

Abby's next nightmare

"Five red squirrels have been airlifted to Tresco in the Scilly Isles to establish the holiday island’s first colony.
Prince Charles, whose Duchy of Cornwall includes Tresco, is supporting the plan to give the endangered animals a safe haven.
The scheme was suggested by former BBC presenter Robin Page, who said the small island – just two miles long by a mile wide – was an ideal location for a new population of reds."

Full story here.  Abby is scanning the skies.

SparkTruck Educational Truth

Yes!! I loves this article from wired.com

"When Eugene Korsunskiy and seven of his fellow students from Stanford University’s design school set out to tour the nation in a brightly painted truck  full of laser cutters and rapid prototyping machines, they thought they were bringing a chance to play with high-tech maker tools to school kids who hadn’t had one yet.
And they were: SparkTruck, the educational make-mobile, made 73 stops this summer, treating 2,679 elementary and middle school students to hands-on workshops covering the basics of electrical engineering and digital fabrication, and giving a chance to make cool stuff in the process, like small robotic creatures and laser-cut rubber stamps.
But as the summer progressed, the SparkTruck team learned an unlikely lesson. The most rewarding part of the trip wasn’t introducing the kids to new technologies. Instead it was something far more basic: watching them struggle with design problems."

Dear Googles/Internetz/to.whom.it.may.concern...

I'm going to go all Grammar Police on you. Why, oh why, can't you read a possessive noun? (First thing I'm going to ask GB when he gets home for Thanksgiving...)

Why do I often show up as:  dogs&#39:mother ?

omg! Dixville Notch is a tie!

*The first presidential election results are in - and it's a tie.
President Barack Obama and  his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, each received five votes in Dixville Notch,  New Hampshire.
The people in the town in the state's northeast corner has opened its polls shortly after midnight each election day since 1968 - but today's tie was the first in its history.*

It has been a looooong election process. I've had to answer phone calls waiting for some stuff to be scheduled. omg! One starts with a dog barking. Even Abby thinks that's nuts.
