Tar and Abby

Tar gets stuck. I'm going crazy!

It took him a half an hour to work up the courage to get down the hallway. The throw rugs didn't work (too slippery). We have runners on order ($1000 worth of runners...) and sticky underlayment for him. We put down hardwood and now we are spending tons of money on rugs to cover it up. Abby does fine. Houses where we had labs and beagles did fine on hardwood... I have an appointment for him to be sedated and get his toe nails cut to see if that helps. He is too big, too strong and too paranoid for us to cut his nails - plus we don't have GB home right now to flatten him. Have to wait until Saturday so The Engineer can lift him into the van. Yes, he won't jump in the van - we think he doesn't think he has enough room. When The Engineer tried to put him into the backseat of his truck Tar put out all his legs to brace himself against the door.
We may just have to sell the house, get a house with carpets, right next to the vet so we can walk him over....

i see the photo and all i can think is 'HOT LAVA! THE FLOOR IS HOT LAVA!" when we took guinness down to indiana with us, he had this thing about the floors at my friend k's house, and tony was carrying him over the tile and hardwood to go outside. however, when we left for the city for the day, guinness had no problem traversing the wood or the tile to go eat or play with my friend k's kids.....

I think your problem is you have yourself a horse there. You need a stable.

You need to design him no skid footiies. :-). I introduced Max to the nail clippers early. She lives getting her nails did. Also the do have the electric nail grinders for dogs. Buy them everywhere.

Tar's tales are too funny! For such a huge male dog he is awfully ginger!

Oh the things we do for our pets.
Hopefully the Fully Sedated Nail Trim will do.

Do they do fully sedated nail trims for adults? Sign me up!

They have paw sprays you can spray on to give them more traction on slippery floors, alot of the greyhound people who have shiny-floor wary dogs recommend them..some of the names are FirmGrip, cleanrun and bio-groom Show Foot...although if he doesn't like his feet touched it might not be much help.

Never heard of those but worth keeping in mind! At 110 lbs we don't have many options.

Bless his heart - and yours, too! That foot spray idea sounds worth trying.

I think Tar and our dog might have been separated at birth. We have also had to provide canine terra firma by way of runners covering our beautiful old hardwood floors. Sigh.
