Puppy Monday

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_0lMmvNNAke0/TUXVs6uWidI/AAAAAAAAD5E/rYB1skFCkw0/s1600/P1010166.JPG

Trying to get a picture to show how much bigger Tar is than his sister. Just looking at the paws tells it all. Abby is so petite that people don't think she is a labrador or a puppy. Her features are all in proportion. Tar still has that loopy puppy gait, big paws, big ears and nobody mistakes him for anything other than a puppy. He outweighs her by, at least, 20 lbs.

they came from spaaaace!!

"IS IT a bird, is it a plane, is it ... a piece of paper?

As of Thursday, people from as far away as Berlin in Germany and Winnipeg in Canada were reporting spotting paper planes that were recently released from the upper atmosphere by an ambitious team of amateur scientists."

SyFy's Face Off makeup artist show

Modeled on Top Chef. Arrive at a reception, complete with loverly flower and foliage decorations. Surprise! Your first challenge and you have to use something from the room decorations. A short challenge and the next day an elimination challenge starts. They do have
three days for the elimination challenge - molds have to be made and set. Their challenge was to make a half animal half human. Animals to choose from - beetle, ostrich or elephant. They brought all the animals onto the set - the elephant was HUGE and scary. They also got to pick a concrete cast of their model to build items on. It was a team challenge and all the dramatics associated. Along the lines of Top Chef they also did the wakeup call in their loft quarters they share and the brushing of the teeth in bathroom. The person who won got a twist. He stayed back and gave his input as to who should go home. The judges seem to be really tops in their field and very instructive in their criticism. Looks to be a good show!

The aftermath

Puppies investigating the family room minus my bookshelves with all my school and craft stuff and GB's Computer Command Central. The tape along the bottom shows how high the water soaked up the wall. I WAS going to buy a water heater this morning but THE VAN WON'T START and GB's jeep is in the shop and The Engineer's jeep is half an hour out in a protected parking lot patrolled by men with Uzis and the other spare car has gone to the great car lot in the sky. Next up - pestilence.

So who won???? And suggestions.

In between finding another leak (and water is running thru the house and spinning the meter!!) and the fix it people getting lost and moving furniture and fixing the front light so the fix it people could find the house and now they are here at 9.30 at night..... we'll have fans blowing ALL night.

We watched the winner of The Fashion Show! It, barring one designer, was a very pretty show. Loverly garments. But so one note to me. Who wears these clothes but beautiful people during their beautiful nighttime hours floating around beautiful NYC or beautiful LA? Draped, floating, flowing, wafting. I'd like to see a designer who can do it ALL. They did try, with their twist, to stretch the designers. I would have gone further and required daytime casual and sportswear, athletic exercise gear, bathing suit, business suit, daytime coat, evening gown, wedding dress, MOB dress (cause I'm crabby) and dress for a woman of size.

We be flooding IN THE HOUSE

A bad week for overtime and overwork for The Engineer so the water heater BLEW UP!
It has gone thru the wall, soaking the carpet in the family room. GB and I have to move his huge
computer desk setup. He has a test due at 11pm (via computer) and has to write a paper on the State of the Union speech. Via phone we've turned off the circuit breakers, turned off the water to the thing and are draining it. AND THE DRAIN IS PLUGGED UP!
The puppies think this is a whole bunch of fun....

Who is going to win The Fashion Show?

All I'm going to say is - it better be Jeffrey!! He's the only one left who isn't there because they made good tv.

Will you watch?

"As part of their (the Weinstein brothers) television push, they plan to launch two spinoffs of "Runway" this year: one called "Project Runway: Masters," in which professional designers compete in fashion challenges to earn money for their favorite charities. Another is titled "Project Runway: Accessories," where designers create new clothing accessories each week"

Do you think established fashion designers will do the Masters show?

Will these be Lifetime shows?

I haz a question

Which will garner more attention -

the Presidents SOTU speech?

or

Oprah's Big Secret?

Tarvus Arrelious Doofus Tarzananate Sunday

I have to be very careful when my sister, Abby The Demon Pixie, is on the bed. One wrong twitch and she growls at me. She has PMS, apparently it is still a problem after she had her ladybits removed.

2 suns in our future?

This is so cool!!!

Betelgeuse is a dying red giant star that is set to blow itself into smithereens. And it could happen next year. If it does we might have two suns for while and we'll be bombarded with star dust - in the form of a 'rain of tiny particles called nuetrinos' - these particles will be 99% of the energy and will pass THRU us and the Earth and won't harm anybody or anything. (Sure hope they are right about that...)

You can see Betelgeuse, it is in the Orion Belt, is orange/red and easily spotted.

Two suns. I'm gonna need a speeder.

full story here.

Saturday chortle for those of you snowed in

We have sun today! I hope everyone has sun. Puppies have been very busy checking out the far flung corners of their yard now that they can get to it.

We be flooding

One of our three rivers is too full. It's been worse. Really worse is when the BIG river floods and it has done that once in the 25+ years we've lived here. We'll see what the big spring melt brings.

Top Chef All Stars - restaurant wars!

I actually liked the Quickfire best! And the twist to determine the winner - make a dish out of the leftovers - that was awesome and very instructive.

The Pop-Up concept is not anything we've seen around here but how fun. When I was doing arts and crafts I loved to design and make the prototype. Production wasn't creative. The Pop-Up restaurant sounds like the same thing.

Marcel. Well, I can't say you'll be missed. And how can you miss with Fabio at the front of the house, LOL!

Edit - reading KarmicKitchen - how could I forget! - having the diners decide, a change that has been a long time coming. Those lucky folks, they knew their food and their Top Chef (comments about the danger of doing desert).

We have trees!

Tree Men came to plant our new trees today. A pretty maple which will have loverly fall color. There used to be four cherry trees there. And a fort in the branches and a zipline to a support pole on the porch :-) We removed the cherry trees due to the $ of spraying. Puppies were outraged that there were tree men in their backyard!

Oh, Cesar!

How could they give you the auf?!?!
I was sure it would probably be Dominique after last week's pig coat and shoulder bustle. And this week it wasn't much better. How could Cesar's house not even win?? Strangest judging ever. We knew Calvin would stay, being the reality tv gold that he is, even with the Alien inspired blouse. Sigh... Will stick it out for the last show to see if they are crazy enough to award Calvin the win. Should be Jeffrey, how could it NOT be, for the win.

The Fashion Show final four

who have to be reduced to three finalists.
I figure Caesar and Jeffrey are safe. The two to fight to the finish will be Dominique and Calvin, who are in the same house this week. Three looks each.
The question is just how badly can Calvin design and execute to actually get kicked off?

Do I really need a 31 ounce latte?

And just how do you pronounce Trenta?

I've been hijacked from my astrological sign!

3,000 years ago they put together the astrological signs. And things have, um, well shifted since then, the Earth and the Sun in relation to the stars.

Some of us are no longer under the signs we thought they were! I am no longer a Pisces. I am now an Aquarius. I don't know if I'm happy about that! And don't even ask me about Ophiuchans.

See if you've been switched HERE.

Top Chef goes fishing

The fishing fleet where I lived in Northern Canada.

I liked the challenge. Do you think they did it all in one day? omg! It seems that *stra-tee-gery* always seems to bite the chefs. Glad to see Carla win and sorry to see Jamie and Tiffani go. It is hard to see this bunch go. We're used to them staying the course.

My favorite fish - fresh caught steelhead fixed on the fire in front of my grandparent's cabin.

Our house

is in the middle bit of land. Loves this picture of winter here in SE WA.

Evolution of Snow Day

When the Ponder Children were little I used to get up and tune to a rather awful radio station (we called it menopause music) for school closures. I'd have to endure the music and the commercials until some DJ took pity and read the school delays and closures.

Today you can sign up for a text to your phone. Today's parents are spoiled!! ;-)

Puppies are home

and the cones don't slow them down at all. And the doggy valium doesn't slow them down. And the doggy painkillers don't slow them down. If we get through this without another vet visit I'll be surprised.

The editing of Huckleberry Finn

A new edition, for school use, with the 'N' word edited out or replaced.
And all Huck has broken loose.
I asked Daughter (only Ponder child available tonight) if she studied it in school. (Was not the kind of parent who had to examine every school book...) She was pretty sure she did but didn't remember any issues with the language. I know I read it as a kid, but in class or school? I knew, back then, the language was archaic. I do feel for teachers who teach it and run into problems. Same thing happens in AP Science classes here with evolution and creationism. Enough to make a grown scientist weep into his beakers.
It is a trending topic on Twitter and I got a laugh out of these two tweets:

Snooki wrote a book and Huckleberry Finn is being censored. It's official: literature is dead.

Huckleberry Finn is eliminating the "N" word from new editions to be less offensive. Also, Moby Dick will now be called Moby Penis.

Joy, what say you?

Tomorrow is the day we get tutored...

Both of them into the vet's at 7am. Slightly anxious about this.

What could possibly get

Calvin kicked off The Fashion Show? His behavior towards his clients was unforgivable. I understand colorful casting but this guy is just downright mean.

The Nine by Jeffrey Toobin

I love books for Christmas. The Engineer received this book from Daughter. And, of course, I swiped it. (He has a nice stack set aside so I can get away with it.)

This book concentrates on the years of '95 to '05 while the Court did not go through any nominations or changes. I loves the behind the scenes stuff. Sometimes it is alarming what goes into decisions - the justices are human and we all have our failings. I'm looking at ordering some other books by this fellow about our recent past - the Lewinsky business and the election of 2000.
