Our state education office has published a book on how to reach and teach children of trauma. I had a student crawl under the desk once overwhelmed with stress. I'm reading the book now and I can only read half a chapter a day before I get mad and angry. How does someone take a baby and abuse them such that they end up a quivering mass of terror, anger and sadness? Being abused literally rewires the brain. How do we stop this cycle?

One year a girl and boy went sympatico in their depression and both crawled under the desks on the floor and lay there holding hands. Admins insisted I let them.Neither was abused and by high school straightened out their issues by transferring to a private school. Personally I thought having to allow that was unhealthy for the class as a whole, but you know how that goes.
I have the same reaction you do. There needs to be a special place in Hell for people who abuse children.
Odd, Charlie, but who knows what goes on in the minds of admins.
