I've always thought the space elevator idea was a perfect alternative to shuttles. I'm happy to see them doing this competition, maybe that will spark more interest in this field of developemnt.

I've heard of the elevator idea. Sounds intriguing but I worry about the logistics and drag that might be encountered. Even though the atmosphere is relatively thin and the cable is extremely long, I wonder if it could be that sturdy? But it doesn't help to try. I tend to be more a fan of maglev propulsion myself! :)
