These have been around all my life. They actually pre-date me.Always passed them on our way to Walla Walla where relatives lived.
This facility is about 45-ish minutes south of us.
>The Umatilla Chemical Depot opened in 1941, to prepare for World War II. The depot's mission was to store and maintain a variety of military items, from blankets to ammunition. The depot took on its chemical weapons storage mission in 1962 and stored 12% of the nation's stockpile. From 1990 to 1994 the facility reorganized in preparation for eventual closure, shipping all conventional ammunition and supplies to other installations. Today, the chemical weapons are the only items still stored at the depot.... Now the facility uses high-temperature incineration technology to destroy weapons, a technology employed by the Army for more than a decade, disposing of more than a quarter of the nation's original chemical weapons.<

Thanks for the information - I knew you'd come through!!!
XOXOXOXOXOXO
I grew up in Spokane & I know eastern Washington pretty well (I have been to St John & Othello!).
I like your blog.
Very few folks have been to Othello, even less to St. John. The Engineer grew up near Palouse. The family farm is just over the border in Idaho.
Small world! Thanks for the info about those things. I didn't realize they were that near you.
EXCELLENT!! Frogponder I pass those little silo all over the place. It's amazing what you see traveling the country. When I went through Hermiston on the 207, I seen the EVAC Signs on the road. Are those there for a damn break? Or for a chemical leak.
P.S. Pasco's new walmart out on 68 is pretty nice. for a walmart that is Thanks for the post.
